REDEVELOPMENT ”DE DREEF”

The project “de dreef” is one of the sub-projects from the Masterplan ”Prosperous Bruinisse”. The municipality, residents, entrepreneurs and social organizations are working together on the redevelopment of the village of Bruinisse.

This project was put on the market by the municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland under the Framework Agreement for Infrastructure. Three contractors were asked in a ‘mini-competition’ to submit a tender that focuses on optimizing the design and realizing opportunities for sustainable development.

The aim of this redesign is to improve the quality of living in the center and to create a pleasant public space.

Client: Municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland

Contractor: Kuipercompagnons (design) and M.J. Oomen Sewer and concrete technology Sprundel (execution)

Period: The contract was awarded in September 2019 and delivered in June 2020

THE REDEVELOPMENT OF ”DE DREEF” CONTRIBUTES TO THE FOLLOWING SUSTAINABLE GOALS, THE SO-CALLED SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS (SDG)

POSITIVE IMPACT INDICATORS

The indicators applied worldwide are based on the framework for the sustainable goals for 2030.

SDG 3.6.1

Improved road safety

The Kiss & Ride has a different color and signage. It has become safer by creating a second entrance for the school and shielding the expedition at AH and constructing zebra crossings. The lower speed improves air quality.

sdg 8.3

SUSTAINABLE GROWTH SMEs

This project was carried out by local (South-West Netherlands) contractors and green companies. The products are produced in the Netherlands (including VelopA, BioBound, MSN and Lightronics). This preserves employment and stimulates innovation.

SDG 9.4

USE CLEANER TECHNIQUES

Two charging points for electric (shared) cars have been installed, dynamic LED lighting, bicycle parking space and a biobased retaining wall made of elephant grass ensure a 26-ton reduction in CO2 emissions per year.

SDG 11.7

improved quality of stay

Spacious parking spaces, extra lighting and high-quality greenery have been added. By referring to the rich mussel culture in colors and details, the area has been redesigned to a high quality. Moving the library has reduced the empty buildings in the center.

IMPROVED BIODIVERSITY

High-quality green has been chosen. The types of greenery are a floral mix based on native species and enhance the biodiversity in the area. This is a special mixture called Schouwen-Duiveland. Additional trees have also been planted. The greenery provides extra cooling in the summer.

SDG 17.7

WORKING TOGETHER ON THE SDG

As standard, the municipality works with 6 local contractors in collaboration with entrepreneurs and residents. For this project, we collaborated with SD Op Weg, which resulted in shared cars at the charging stations. This is the first project where the new SDG ambition wheel has been tested.

PROJECT OBJECTIVES

  • Pleasant public space.
  • Good rainwater drainage during extreme rainfall.
  • Good accessibility of new and existing retail.
  • The project exploits opportunities in the field of sustainability, social initiatives and innovation.
  • Well-tuned performance.

SUSTAINABLE LIGHTNING

By working together with all stakeholders, we were able to achieve a quality boost for Bruinisse center in a short time. At the same time, the quality of life and local economy increased. I am proud of the 8.0 that the residents and entrepreneurs have given to this project”.
